There are normally small vessels moored just outside the green side of the buoyed channel especially during the summer months. The pick up buoys for these moorings can be impossible to see until you are on top of them.
Beware of numerous small racing marker buoys just outside the red side of the channel during the summer months.
Watch out for fast catamarans that leave from Ryde pier head. They can leave ahead or astern!!
Watch out for hovercrafts leaving the slipway just to the west of the harbour.
Watch out for fishermen casting from the east side of Ryde pier head if you are bound to the west.

This is the outer sand bar that lies at the end and just to the east of the buoyed channel. This sand bar changes month by month and it may not be correctly shown on your chart. When navigating to the east in a deep draught vessel or at the edge of your tide window from or to the east, make sure you do not turn to the east before you reach the no. 1 buoy so as to avoid the sand bar. To be on the safe side, it is advisable to go well north of no. 1 buoy before turning to the east.

These pictures show some of the hazards that are in the approaches to the harbour.
